Habitat for Humanity Re-Sell Store

I was watching ionlife this evening. There was several trash to treasure type shows on. Two in a row! Wow the ideas they came up with were endless. It's given me so many great ideas and inspiration. So what I am about to share with you is not a trash to treasure idea that I picked up from the show, but it is pro recycle.

Well, I have been needing a new fridge because mine is on it's way out and I haven't broke down and bought a new one. I don't know why but I dread buying appliances although I need them. It couldn't have to anything with the expense right??? lol Anyway, in this show the objective was to totally do a build out, decorate and furnish this home using only junk they found on the streets, dumpsters, junk yards and such. You get the point. They only had 2k to complete the entire project. A little elbow grease money. Cool show by the way.

To get the appliances they needed they went to a Habitat for Humanity Re-Sell Store. They bought a fridge, a sink, cabinets, a dishwasher, microwave, and a vintage something or other to make a headboard out of. The items they bought were not brand new so it fit their objective. They only spent $600! I had an Oprah Ah ha! moment...So I google searched stores in my area and voola! I was so geekishly excited lol. Yay me. I can score a new fridge for like nothing. Ahhh... being green makes the wallet greener. hehe.

I started choosing the design for my project. I think it will be a longer process then I first thought. But that's ok. It's the journey. :) Here are my latest photos.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND! Ahhh...My 2008 Maxfield Parish calendar, that I could not throw away. Maxfield Parish is one of my favorite artist. I am even more excited that I found this to use for my decoupage project. I have 12 amazing prints to use! It's amazing what you can find just laying around the house.

I am excited because I found a couple of old posters to start my decoupage project with! Amongst them I found an old world map poster. I am definitely going to use it for the piece I am redoing. I don't think it's enough for the whole piece. I am ok with that because I want to add some dimension. I can't wait to see what else I find laying around the house!

I would love to see some things you have done with some old junk! How did you make it "new" again?

I think the whole "green" thing is pretty great. Really, we live in such a disposable society that we automatically think "new". My junk project is really giving me a different perspective. It's like I am seeing things in a whole different light. Instead of "oh that's garbage or give away", I am like "hmm...what can I do with this."

I was thinking for my decoupage project, seeing what I have around the house that I could use. I was going to go to Hobby Lobby and buy some pretty paper, but I might have some old stuff around the house that I can use. I want to see how green I can make this project. The greener the better huh? If I can create a new look for that piece of 90% recycled material, I think that is something I could be proud of. Hopefully I can make it cute too! :)
